Technology Showcase
When I was applying to Michigan State for my graduate program it took me some time to decide on my concentration. I finally decided on Educational Technology so that my career options would be more diverse. As I began my journey as an MAET student I realized that my goal was to become proficient in as many technologies as possible in order to have a wide variety of instructional options to help my students. I didn't want to just learn technology to learn it, I wanted to use everything I created and every piece of information to better the education I provide for my students. An obstacle I have faced has been to determine what it looks like at the lower elementary level. This became another goal: to become proficient in technology that is meaningful to students at the lower elementary level. I have compiled a collection of my best work in the program that I think proves my success with these goals. I have divided my showcase up into sections:
1. Online Identity Projects
2. Research Projects
3. Instructional Resources

Creating an Online Identity
Educational Technology Blog CEP 810: Teaching for Understanding with Technology Instructor: Melissa White When I began my journey as an MAET student, we were asked to create a blog to document our journey through the program. I have blog posts for most of my projects from nearly every class that I took. It helped me understand the importance of being a digital citizen and gave the work I have done a more permanent stance in the digital world. |
Professional Learning Network (PLN)
CEP 810: Teaching for Understanding with Technology Instructor: Melissa White This was the first project that I completed in my first master's class for the MAET program. We were required to create a visual of our journey in education up until that point in time and reference all of the tools and institutions that helped us get there. This is called a Professional Learning Network or a PLN. |

Personal Manifesto
CEP 815: Technology and Leadership Instructor: Joshua Rosenberg For this project, we were asked to think about all of the characteristics that are necessary to be successful at our profession. My personal manifesto is on the art of being an educator. The manifesto consists of resources that I have used to better myself in my work. Everything I think that educators should use in order to become distinguished in their craft is listed and explained. |
Concept Representation
CEP 815: Technology and Leadership Instructor: Joshua Rosenberg For this assignment we were asked to choose a concept from our Technology and Leadership course and represent it using technology. One of my favorite topics in this course was Instrumental and Missional Thinking. This concept showed me what kind of thinker I would like to be when thinking about educational technology. Thinking instrumentally causes individuals to focus too much on the tool and forget about the goal while missional thinkers tend to pick the tool based on the goal and what it can do to help them achieve. |

Special Interest Group (SIG) Project
CEP 810: Teaching for Understanding with Technology Instructor: Melissa White I worked with a group for this project, learning and promoting Nearpod which is an application that can be used to help students in whole class setting, small group, or one to one. My group members took a special interest in this technology because it helps educators in a wide variety of ways. |
Wicked Problem Project CEP 812: Applying Educational Technology to Issues of Practice Instructor: Melissa White This project was called a Wicked Problem Project because we were supposed to come up with a POSSIBLE solution to a problem that quite easily could have no solution. My group and I created a VoiceThread where we proposed a solution about the role of the venerated teacher in today's society. |

Podcast
CEP 800: Psychology of Learning in School and Other Settings Instructor: Danah Henriksen This project was about identifying misconceptions and possible gaps in instruction that has already taken place. I interviewed 2 students who have since left my school on the concept of matter. The interviews helped me figure out where I need to improve or strengthen my instruction on this concept. |
Digital Story
CEP 800: Psychology of Learning in School and Other Settings Instructor: Danah Henriksen For this project I used the art of discussion to help my students better understand the 3 states of matter. I created a digital story to show the transformation that my students made to understanding this complicated science concept. |

Instructional Resources
Stand Alone Instructional Resource (StAIR)
CEP 811: Adapting Innovative Technologies to Education Instructor: Sara Beauchamp - Hicks In this class we learned a lot about adapting technologies to supplement our instruction. I created a fact fluency practice module where students work with a partner to practice basic math facts. The StAIR was created in PowerPoint and it asks students to work as partners, one answering the questions and one timing with a stopwatch to help students become more aware of their fact fluency ability. In order to increase our roles as digital citizens we were also asked to share our StAIR projects on Merlot with other edcuators; you can find this here: Beat the Clock. |
WebQuest
CEP 811: Adapting Innovative Technologies to Education Instructor: Sara Beauchamp - Hicks For this assignment I used Weebly to design a task for second grade students to work through in order to become more proficient with geometry standards. Other assignments included evaluating the WebQuests of others before we created our own in order to gain an understanding of what we would be doing. The WebQuest I designed is meant to serve as a single lesson in a geometry unit so that students are using the technology to add to their learning experiences. |
Screencast Project: Problem of Practice
CEP 812: Applying Educational Technology to Issues of Practice Instructor: Melissa White This class was all about problems of practice and how to use technology tools to help fix these problems. Our first assignment was a Screencast that I uploaded to YouTube. We were asked to identify a problem in our own classrooms and find a possible technology or technological tool to help solve it. I chose to use XtraMath.org in order to help motivate my students improve their fact fluency at the second grade level. |

Online Course Module
CEP 820: Teaching Students Online Instructor: Anne Heintz This course was all about choosing the right tools and taking the time to design online instruction. I chose to create a course module on vowel sounds for second grade students. The module focuses on using different vowel patterns to work on linking with words at the second grade level. The course also works to teach students the basics of digital citizenship and how to interact with others online. Throughout my course creation, I kept a Developer's Notebook to help me plan my module, this was another assignment. You can view this by clicking the button. |
