More About Mrs. Jacob
Thank you for taking the time to explore my portfolio as it is a collection of who I am as an educator and as a learner. It contains many of the aspects that I feel have made me successful in my goal to obtain a master's degree. Here you will learn more about me, both personally and professionally. I have been working on my master's degree in educational technology for two years and I received my bachelor's degree from Michigan State University in 2009. After I graduated from MSU I began a year long internship in Waterford, Michigan teaching 4th grade. When the year was over I was able to get a job in the same district at the same school. I started out teaching 5th grade but found my passion for teaching again when I switched to 2nd grade in 2012. This page will tell you more about that passion and who I am as a person. Enjoy!
Personal LifeI currently live in Ferndale, Michigan with my husband, Greg, and our two dogs, Ares & Autumn. Greg & I were just married in August and have loved settling into married life. I grew up in Waterford, the place where I now teach and I have three sisters who are truly my best friends and some of my favorite people. When I'm not teaching or planning lessons I love spending time with my family, arts and crafts, reading, and one day, I am planning to become a decent cook. I also love to travel and although I haven't been to many places beyond the United States, I plan to change that in the future. Traveling with Greg is so much fun, we like to explore and on our most recent trip to Florida I got my scuba diving certification which we put to good use on our honeymoon in Jamaica.

Professional LifeI completed my teaching internship in a 4th grade classroom at Waterford Village Elementary in the Waterford School District. After I received my teaching certificate I was hired at the same school in the same classroom but as a 5th grade teacher. I taught 5th grade for 2 years and when an opportunity rose to try something new I asked to move to 2nd grade. Once I started teaching 2nd grade I felt revived...it was everything that I wanted out of a career in education. I have taught 2nd grade for 2 years now. Unfortunately, the school that taught me how to do my job was scheduled to close at the end of the 2013-14 school year. In the Fall I will be teaching at Schoolcraft Elementary. I was lucky enough to keep a 2nd grade position. Although, changing environments on terms that are not my own is scary, I am very excited to begin this new adventure - to learn new things and help more students.
