TE 803 Professional Roles and Teaching Practice II Justin Bruner This class was part of my teaching internship program. This class taught me how to reach out and work with other networks that can help me better serve my students such as families and the community. It also taught me about working with and thinking about students with special needs. Like the other classes that were a part of this program, the course taught about unit planning and collaboration. This course focused on the subject area of social studies. TE 804 Reflection and Inquiry in Teaching Practice II Rochelle Rubin This class was part of my teaching internship program. It taught me a great deal about unit planning and subject integration specifically in the area of elementary science. I learned about backwards design and connecting material so that it all comes together for students and so that they have the ability to make connections between lessons, units, and other subject areas. I also learned to value science curriculum and teaching the content in an elementary setting. The course taught me how to increase the amount of time spent teaching science to students so that concepts are fully understood by students. |

Fall Semester
CEP 810 Teaching for Understanding with Technology Melissa White This was my first course that I took for my master's degree in educational technology. I was also my first of 3 certificate courses that I took in order to get a technology endorsement on my teaching certificate. CEP 810 is an introductory course in educational technology. The course focuses on teaching students how to use and integrate technology in to educational settings. I was introduced to the TPACK model and taught how to use it when implementing technology. I learned how to utilize social media such as Twitter to further my knowledge in educational technology. I also worked as part of a SIG group where I promoted the Nearpod app to help struggling students. |

Spring Semester
CEP 811 Adapting Innovative Technologies to Education Sara Beauchamp - Hicks This was the second certificate course that I took. This course focused on teaching us to use different tools in technology to meet the different needs of students. I created a blog to track my progress, share my progress, and communicate with my colleagues. One of the bigger projects was a Stand Alone Instructional Resource (StAIR), where we created a resource to help students learn about or practice a specific topic relevant to our grade level. We also shared these projects on Merlot to help learn about becoming part of an online educational network. Another project was to create a webquest which facilitated an online learning experience for students. We evaluated other webquests that were available and shared our own with the use of Merlot again. This was also the class that introduced me to UDL (a Universal Design for Learning). Summer Semester CEP 812 Applying Educational Technology to Issues of Practice Melissa White This was the final course in the certificate program. We worked on using different technologies to solve different problems of practice in the classroom. The main project that took up most of the class was called a Wicked Problem Project where we worked in groups to solve tricky issues involving the educational world today. My particular project focused on the new role of teachers and teaching in today's society. We presented our work in a voicethread to clearly communicate our solution and to become familiar with new technologies. This class taught me how to look at issues in education with new perspectives using knowledge about different technologies. CEP 822 Approaches to Educational Research Tatyana Li This course taught students everything about educational research. We analyzed MEAP data that was provided to us and looked for patterns and worked on developing inquiry skills and we collected our own data to analyze and inquire about. We learned about every aspect of research from the data and the bias to the opinions and the details. The final project was one in which we did our own research proposal and paper where we put our reflection, analytic, and inquiry skills to work on a question we posed about education. This class was intellectually challenging and pushed students to go beyond their opinions as well as to use the opinions of others to gain new perspectives on educational issues. Fall Semester CEP 800 Psychology of Learning in School and Other Settings Danah Henriksen This course was all about learning theories and perspectives that occur in a traditional school setting as well as in other settings the students we teach are familiar with. We had to examine these theories and implement them into our teaching. We used different technological tools to present our findings. Two of the major projects in this course were a podcast and a digital story that showcased our understanding of these concepts. This class really helped me understand how different student approach learning. |

Spring Semester
CEP 815 Technology and Leadership Joshua Rosenberg This course was all about educational technology from more of an administrative perspective. We learned about the different types of leadership strategies and evaluated how each type of leader would respond to different situations. We looked at educational issues in technology from an administrative perspective and analyzed what is needed and important when using technology in terms of curriculum, pedagogy, classroom dynamics, and ability. We studied different modes of thinking when it came to implementing educational technology and identified examples of these thought processes. The final project was to propose a technological solution to a problem of practice. We had to back up our thinking with a budget, resources, and a statement of sustainability while keeping in mind all of the topics we learned about throughout the course. Summer Semester CEP 820 Teaching Students Online Anne Heintz This course was set up to teach graduate students how to teach their own students online. The whole of the course was dedicated to teaching us how to design and implement an online instructional module that met curriculum standards as well as technology standards. We learned about different Course Management Systems (CMS) and how to use them and we learned how to create coherent lessons via online instruction. In addition to creating an online module, we studied and read about the prevalence of online learning in the world today. We were also given instruction on how to keep our own personal instructional methods visible with an online learning environment. CEP 807 Capstone in Educational Technology Matthew Koehler This was the last course that I had to take as a MAET student. This course asked me to explain my program experience as a whole in the form of an online educational portfolio. The course asked that I reflect on my work as a educational technology student and think about what it has taught me and how I will continue to use the knowledge I have gained as I continue my career in education. As a result of this course I now have a collection of my work and achievements available to my colleagues and administrators in one place presented professionally and creatively. This course gave me pride in what I have accomplished over the last 2 years. |
